Smoke Bush leaves – two colourways

Recipe for dyeing two different colourways with Smoke Bush Leaves
Ingredients
2 x 10 gms skein sock yarn pre-treated with alum
Recipe for pre-treating with alum60 grams of smoke bush leaves
1 litre of water
1 tablespoon of citric acid
Directions
- Follow the instructions to pre-treat skeins with alum
- Weigh 60 grams of smoke bush leaves
- Add to pan with 1 litre of water
- Cover and bring to a gentle simmer, cook for 1 hour
- Turn off heat and cool over night
- Sieve and return to pan
- Add 2 skeins of yarn
- Cover and bring to a gentle simmer, cook for 1 hour
- Turn heat off and cool
- Add 1 tablespoon of citric acid and gently stir
- Cover and bring to a simmer for 20 minutes
- Cool
- Rinse, dry and admire
